The 2014 MTV Music awards were filled with big stars, explosive movies, some interesting stunts and a fair share of technical problems, but in the end it served as a fun, laid-back celebration of cinema and popular culture the way that MTV was always meant to exemplify.
The night began with an energetic and strangely commanding opening by the shows (rarely-seen) host Conan O'Brien. Starting was an pre-taped intro where Conan managed to get a whopping 50 celebrity cameos (including Andy Samberg, Sarah Silverman, the cast of The Big Bang Theory, and himself) and stuff them into a segment less than a few minutes long. Then Conan then came out to a blaze of pyrotechnic glory and the show started off strong.
